Cascade - Part 2
.
The wreckage of the lab hadn't done much to stop her attempts to pull together what scraps of Remnant lingered in the tunnels and caves for William Afton’s reconstruction. It did, however, make it more difficult for her to get access to the training data and primary A.I. for the aptly named Mimic endoskeleton. Without access to Mimic1 the risk that the Mimic endo would assume incorrect information into its replication of William Afton grew higher by the day.
She had barely survived the brat's attempt to destroy her, the Mimic, and her lab, but she had taken time to recover from her injuries. Too much precious time. Emelia’s Remnant, her soul, should still be safe, grafted carefully to an endoskeleton that she’d kept close by in the Parts and Service section of the Pizzaplex. William’s was still in ruins, fragments of his brilliant soul bound to the Mimic in desperate attempts to rebuild him with stolen Remnant and forcing the endoskeleton to ‘learn’ William’s mannerisms while the A.I in the server rebuilt his personality from records and recordings to serve as his foundation.
To become William Afton, so that his soul could latch on and regain those ‘memories’ and forge new Remnant of his own.
There was the alternative route back to the surface, but it was riddled with debris and dim lighting, and she would have to climb upwards to reach the cargo elevator. Difficult and painful, but doable for now. She’d need to transfer to a new body far sooner than she’d planned. If only she’d been able to buy out that damned pizzeria her former husband had financed to spite her; the co-owner of Circus Baby’s would have made for an ideal host, young enough to suit her and intelligent enough to satisfy her demands for brilliance to feed her own mind.
Surely one of her sleepers would awaken and come for her, right?
Onwards and upwards for now, she supposed. The Mimic endo was following after her, a bit slower, more curious with its surroundings, but once she got back to the Pizzaplex proper, it would join her. And then she’d find a way to get her hands on Project GGY to pull that precious data out of his brain and give it to Mimic1 where it rightfully belonged. That boy was far more trouble than he was worth after all.

“Still no word from Mr. Fitzgerald?” Vanessa asked with a sigh as Ven settled back in his chair. He shook his head and her expression grew a bit pinched. “I see.”
“Without his information, Vincent really can’t make much headway in figuring out Gregory’s nightmare. I’m sorry about that,” the artist told her, “I asked Damien to go over to the Schmidt household with Stephanie and ask directly after he finishes checking on the security of the old home location.”
“Which is why you’ll be focusing on Sydney today.” Vanessa smiled ruefully, shaking her head a little, “Guess it was okay that Gregory went out to play with his friends after all.”
“The two of you are his guardians, right?” Ven asked, looking between her and Sydney already laying on the other sofa, “And Alex is working today, so who’s looking after Gregory?”
“Freddy went with him to Circus Baby’s. It should be okay since he got those modifications that lets him pass for a costumed person and your sister helped make him some clothes that fit,” Vanessa explained brightly despite her still strained look, “The nightmare has been bringing down his mood, so I thought a day of fun with his friends should cheer him up.”
Ven offered her a friendly grin of support before closing his eyes and letting himself drift back, Vincent coming forward to take his place and carry out the dream therapy. “I’m surprised you managed to convince him to let me in,” the counselor remarked, opening his eyes to focus the luminous white on Vanessa.
“Wasn’t easy, that’s for sure,” Vanessa admitted tiredly, looking over at Sydney’s sleeping face with his furrowed brow, “Whatever might be in his mind, he says he has it under control, but I don’t like how afraid of himself he’s become since we escaped the Pizzaplex. Vanny must have done something to him during one of her torture sessions with him.”
“I should be able to remove it after having recovered from getting thrown out of Gregory’s dream,” Vincent replied with a sheepish laugh, “Strong kid.” He closed his eyes again, preparing to reach out with his Remnant, “Alright, Sydney, same as before, okay? Try not to punch me this time!”
Sydney only grunted, frowning deeper in his sleep, and Vincent decided that was about as good of an answer he’d ever get before stretching out to synchronize his Remnant and slip into the dream.
.
Broken.
No.
Shattered.
Vincent crouched on a patch of floor that was half laminated wood, half concrete slab. Disconnected walls floated over gaps of murky black, furniture seemed to be resting over nothingness, framed photos drifted by with faces slashed and only one preserved.
The picture perfect false smile of a little girl in silent pain, cutouts of a hoodie and pants taped over the photo in an attempt to get rid of the sparkling chiffon dress she wore.
Vincent reached out to pull down the frame before it floated out of reach, examining it closer. No, not ‘she’; those eyes, that agony within them, that had to be a young Alex, begging his brother for rescue and freedom. “And he threw himself in front of you like a shield, fighting for any method that could get you out of an identity that wasn’t yours,” he muttered and released the frame, watching the photo float on.
From how the mindscape looked, Sydney clearly didn't have enough of his original Remnant and memories to fully build a solid foundation for his own identity. Router had been pouring in what little he could spare back when they were both ghosts and BellaRosa had filled in the rest with the gathered Remnant left behind by Meera’s grandmother, but none of it could restore lost memories.
All Sydney had to base his sense of self on was whatever survived the Trinity of Guards and whatever Alex told him about who he used to be, biased information. Maybe that was why Sydney was constantly afraid? Without a strong sense of self he could very easily be overwritten by whatever Remnant coding was implanted by Elizabeth Afton.
So then how did Sydney get whatever was implanted ‘under control’?
Vincent pushed off from the broken chunk of floor, exerting just enough Remnant control to let himself float and move through the mindscape. So far there wasn’t any sign of Sydney in the dream, so what was he-?
He frowned as faint whispers drifted past his ears, soft and dark and soothing. If he could just focus a bit more on them, maybe he could-.
He shook his head hard, a chill running down his back. This was Sydney’s mind and he still was capable of using words to destroy someone’s mental state. Vincent took a moment to check his own mental guards, strengthening them enough to deaden the whispers’ pull but not so much he’d accidentally sever the connection he made to Sydney.
Where was he?
Vincent drifted on, scanning the fragmented dream world in search of some sign of the dreamer.
An open crate spilling weapons into the air drifted past, pulling his attention to it. The ink black panther head stamped into the wood reminded him of Sydney’s past life alias and following the crate with his gaze drew him to finally see a large metal box in the distance, a smaller figure beside it. Was that where Sydney was?
Floating towards the box, Vincent was able to make out more details as he drew closer to it. It was more like a prison cell, all metal walls and a solid metal door. There was damage to it, like something inside had dented the walls and door in attempts to get out. Wrapped around the cell was a heavy chain, binding it, and Sydney sat on the ground in front of the door, gripping the ends of the chain in his hands.
He didn’t register Vincent touching down near him, dark bags under his eyes that remained lidded and fixed on the ground, grip on the chains tight despite the mix of old and fresh blood leaking between his fingers. Was this what he meant by keeping the Remnant code under control?
Vincent glanced up at the cell door, noting that there was a small window in it, darkness beyond the gap. There was a sliding panel to close over the window, but it looked broken in some way, so it couldn’t be closed.
As much as he wanted to look inside and see what form the coding took, Sydney’s condition was the more pressing issue. Vincent knelt in front of the man, raising a hand palm up to him in hopes he’d be recognized. His stomach twisted a little at the flinch Sydney expressed from the motion, the younger man pressing his back more firmly against the cell door.
“Not gonna hurt you. You aren’t the ghost I faced back then. Right now, you’re someone in need of help,” he explained softly. Sydney’s eyes finally lifted to his own, peering at him through the shadows cast by his hair hanging over his face. “Can you tell me what this dream is? What’s inside the cell?”
Sydney grit his teeth, baring them in a silent snarl as he clenched his fists around the chains, fresh blood trickling down the metal to add another coat to the dried splatters and streams. Vincent watched him for a moment, then sighed. So the self-imposed muteness persisted even in his dreams. That would make things a little bit harder to figure out and dispel.
He wasn’t trained for special needs children, far less a special needs adult. But a person in need of help was still in need of help so he’ll have to make do somehow.
Dull reverberating thuds sounded from within the cell, a rhythmic tapping that had Sydney freeze in place, eyes wide and breath catching before going quick and shallow. Vincent looked up at the door with a frown. What was going on?
He stretched his Remnant forward, cautious, probing, trying to get a feel for what was inside the cell. The sound of footsteps made him pause and he began to look over his shoulder to see who was approaching, Sydney making a soft sound of distress and huddling in place. Familiarity with the position from children who pleaded for parents not to be called sparked fury that he had to swallow down to keep a calming presence.
“Oh, did you bring someone in to tell you it’s okay to be a failure?” Alex’s voice rang out snidely, “Kind of dumb that you brought in the guy who’s the reason you’re like this.”
“Excuse me?” Vincent bit out, turning in place to narrow his eyes at the figure of Alex Herrera standing there with his arms folded over his chest.
“Don’t act innocent. Whatever you did to him destroyed so many memories, so much Remnant. It’s your fault he’s at risk now. If you hadn’t ruined him as Panther, he wouldn’t be this sniveling imitation on the brink of being eaten up by Afton tech.” Alex’s sneering grin was sharp and cold, matching the chill of guilt that sank teeth into Vincent’s mental shield.
He shook himself off hard, feeling the cloying Remnant slide away as Alex’s grin bared a flash of teeth. “All he lost were poisonous memories of a past that doesn’t need to be part of his life now. He has memories of his life as Sydney Herrera to build an identity on. He can still do that; you’re the one insisting he be someone he’s not!” Vincent yelled back.
“So it’s his own fault he doesn’t have a strong identity, then? Even with memories of being Herrera, his mind’s still fractured like this, so he’s the one who failed to build anything?” Alex asked with a chuckle, “Wow, victim blaming, much? You suck as a counselor.”
“That’s not what I said or meant! You’re twisting my words!”
“You’re the one who implied it, not me.”
“You’re misinterpreting my words on purpose!”
“Maybe you should have been more clear. Is this why you worked with kids? Can’t use your words right with adults?”
“You-!” Vincent growled and flinched back as the biting chill made itself more known again. His defenses, how much of them got worn down by the back and forth?! He poured in a bit more Remnant to rebuild them and glared at the smirking young man before him. That was insidious. “You must be the source of the nightmare.”
Alex’s imposter just winked at him before looking over at Sydney. “His nightmare? Sure, you could say that. I think of myself as the bringer of the truth he needs to hear, even if he doesn’t want to,” he replied, chuckling at the other man’s shiver. “I’ve been telling him, out there and in here; my wish was for Panther to be brought back with me, and I got this cheap imitation instead. I was robbed of my partner and I’ll beat him back into the right shape one way or another.”
Sydney clicked his tongue, shaking his head even as he grimaced at the words. Vincent stepped forward, holding a hand aside to block him from view.
“You’re not doing anything of the sort, and if the real Alex has been pressuring Sydney to be more like Panther then I believe we’ll be having words regarding that,” he growled and swept his hand up to face the smirking young man, calling up his Remnant to focus on him. “I’ll just have to dispel you first!”
He really should have stopped to consider why it seemed so easy to throw the wave of dispelling Remnant at the fake Alex, fueled by Ven’s serene nature to pay for Vincent’s anger towards the illusion trying to bring back someone who didn’t need to exist.
But he didn’t, just directed the wave to wash over the figure of Alex Herrera to strip it away and reveal what the truth was underneath. Some fragment of Afton programming, like the broken Vanny in Vanessa's head? Or something more complex like what Elizabeth had implanted in Gregory?
No. None of those.
Vincent’s expression twisted in confusion and faint alarm at the sight of a second Sydney Herrera standing there after the wave dispersed. He looked aside and down at the Sydney still sitting on the ground, head bowed and gripping the chains desperately tight.
“I.. don’t understand..,” the counselor said slowly. “Why are there two of you?”
“Inner voice,” the revealed Sydney replied, startling Vincent into taking a step back. He shrugged, a halfhearted gesture, and nodded in understanding. “Been a while since you heard us, so that reaction’s expected.” He paused, mouth twisting as he narrowed his eyes. “Is this what our voice sounds like?” he asked aloud, as if to listen to the whisper-soft and raspy sound more closely, “What did we sound like before? Been too damn long.”
What did this mean? Vincent narrowed his eyes as he tried to decipher this new puzzle. “The image of Alex saying those things about Sydney, about how he doesn’t match up with the memory of Panther.. that was the illusion. And you, Sydney’s own voice, are the truth hidden under it?” He scratched at the stubble on his chin thoughtfully. “So what was the illusion trying to mask? That you don’t want Sydney to be pressured by Alex into becoming more like Panther?”
“That I was the one saying everything the illusion did,” the second Sydney replied flatly. He tilted his head curiously at Vincent’s scowl. “You really aren’t very good at this when it comes to adults, are you?”
“Why would you say those things to yourself?!” Vincent asked the Sydney that still sat mutely at the box, “I thought you hated anything connected to Panther!”
“We do, but it’s still the truth,” the other Sydney replied in his place, pulling Vincent’s attention back to him. He gestured outward, at the broken and void-filled domain that was his ‘mind’. “Router made the deal to be reborn with Panther at his side. Alex made it through reincarnation, but we failed to be the Panther he wanted us to be. Sydney Herrera is opposing to Panther, but we want to do whatever we can to make Alex happy.”
A small, crooked grin spread on Sydney’s face, rueful and exasperated. “What would make Alex happy is Panther’s return, but we hoped that if we were good enough as just Sydney, maybe that would be enough instead.”
Vincent watched a ghostly image of a younger Sydney helping a much younger Alex into a small suit, dressed up as formal as could be. Vague impressions of judges and court documents floated over them before fading into mist. Sydney cleaning a small apartment while Alex ate lunch at a kitchen table, Sydney helping at a construction site while Alex attended school, Sydney performing all the acts and actions of a parent desperately trying to hold a family together in the face of the legal system and through it all Alex wore the same expression of frustration and dissatisfaction.
“But even if we were what Alex needed to gain his freedom, we weren’t what he wanted to gain his happiness,” Sydney sighed, looking down at the palm of one hand, forlorn and wistful. “We don’t have the memories to know how to be ‘Panther’ even though we have the skills. We can still break someone’s mind and spirit, still know how to gather background information, detect and feel the emotions of others, and combine it all in our words so we can heighten the emotions we want, twist the rest to be used as weapons.”
“Panther.. was an empath?” Vincent murmured in horror. Sydney just shrugged. “But, why put up the illusion of Alex saying you robbed him of his wish if you’re the one saying it?”
“Because it was easier to ignore if we could pretend it was just Alex saying it,” Sydney said dully, raising his arms to hold himself. “Because it’s the truth. We’re not Panther; he was promised Panther in the deal and instead he got us and he’s not happy and...” He fell silent and Vincent took a cautious step towards him.
A small laugh, broken and wet, burst from Sydney’s mouth as the grin returned, shaky and weak. “He’s our little brother. All we want is for him to be happy,” he said, his gaze moving from Vincent to the Sydney sitting at the metal box with the chains in his hands. “It’s a choice between what Alex needs and what Alex wants, and he’s been denied what he wants for two lifetimes already. We can’t deny him anymore. Not when we have the way to give it to him.”
...
The box.
Vincent spun around, staring at the metal as dull thuds began pounding out from within the box again. He had been looking in the wrong place for whatever Elizabeth had implanted in the younger man!
Slowly, painfully, Sydney got up from the ground, hands clutching the chains shaking. Their eyes met, luminous white ones wide with dawning horror and realization, ice blue ones bright with guilt and grief.
“You don’t have to listen to either of those voices,” Vincent said desperately, holding up his hands and approaching slowly. Maybe there was still a chance to turn this around. “You’re your own person and there’s value in being Sydney Herrera!”
“You say that, but you’re someone on the outside. I exist because of my brother, so he matters more.” Sydney glanced aside at the box, then sighed, bowing his head. “As long as Alex is looking for Panther, he’ll never see me. Both of them were right. This body was meant for the mercenary, not some amnesiac.”
“Whatever is in that box, don’t let it talk you into making a terrible mistake!” Vincent urged, reaching out towards the chains.
“He didn’t have to do much talking,” Sydney finally whispered, a tiny and tremulous smile on his face as tears welled up, “I did it to myself for him. Tell Vanessa.. I’m sorry I can’t be by your side anymore.”
He let the chains go.
The metal panels of the box exploded outward, knocking both men over in the gale that rushed from its epicenter, and booming laughter filled the air.
Vincent struggled to push himself up from the cracked floor, a sudden pressure in the mindscape weighing down on him that his own mental shield could barely counteract. Was this the result of whatever Remnant coding got put into Sydney’s head?
Wooden flooring gave way to concrete and patches of grass and foliage as he lifted his head to the sound of boots crunching sticks and leaves with every step. And then a voice he didn’t recognize but gave him chills all the same spoke up.
“Shadow Mine finally broke, hm? What more proof does anyone need to see how much of a failure he turned out to be?”
Vincent looked up in shock at the sight of a large, muscular man grinning widely down at him, hair cropped short and clad in black and dark gray. Was this what Panther looked like as a human? He flinched when the man reached down and grabbed him by the front of his shirt, dragging him up and closer.
“And you must be an external Remnant entity. A.. soul. Or a ghost. One of those things the Master File babbled about. Interesting data; something to send along to the main branch in a merge request later.” Panther murmured as Vincent stared up at him in alarm, hands gripping at Panther’s wrist. He looked around for help, spotting only Sydney still laying prone on the ground, as though all strength to even rise was gone from him in his despair. The emotion roiled out from him in a fine cold mist, sapping at Vincent’s defenses while they were still struggling to push against the pressure in the mindscape without severing the connection to Sydney.
Could he dispel this Panther on his own? The Trinity of Guards had been enough of an emotional force to rip apart Lucian’s ghost and almost fully rip apart Panther’s; he only somewhat survived thanks to Router escaping the hit and taking a portion of Panther’s Remnant with him back to his anchor in Fazbear’s Fright. Vincent pulled one hand free, gritting his teeth as he gathered up his Remnant into the dispelling wave and threw the cooling blue force into Panther’s face. That much positive aligned Remnant should do something, right?
Panther simply laughed again, the wisps of Remnant trailing into nothing around him. “Interesting,” he repeated and tilted his head. “Was that meant to do something?” He paused, then looked up at the endless murky expanse of the mindscape. “Watch me make this mind into my own.” he added with a smirk and gestured upward with his free hand.
Vincent had only a moment to understand the feeling of Sydney’s own mental shields -or were they Panther’s?- slamming into place before a scream tore out of his own mouth, his connection to Ven severed violently, painfully. His mind flashed to the multiple stabs that had riddled his body in his life that led to him bleeding out in that dark alley so long ago; this was so much more agonizing.
“Assimilating Shadow Mine’s Remnant isn’t enough to stabilize the mimicry. I need a proper killer’s mindset. If he isn’t enough, then I’ll just break you into the rest I need,” Panther crooned through Vincent’s pained screaming. “Records indicate Panther had a skill in psychological torture; you can fill in for that once I’ve reprogrammed you, Dream Eater. In the meantime, Elizabeth Afton still wants that woman’s body for her plans, and I’ll bet she’ll pay a pretty penny for it. Enough for me and Router to get back to rebuilding our business...”

Summary: The thing about finding love in a war zone, Tucker thinks, is that you never know when it’s coming. The thing about finding love in a war zone, Wash thinks, is that you never know where it’s going. Two former Freelancers, an A.I. fragment, and several Red and Blue soldiers have a thing or two to learn as well, about trust, and loyalty, and love. In war, you make homes out of people despite knowing that they can be ripped away in the blink of an eye and- The thing is, you protect your own with everything you've got.

Basically Sigma was one of the Alpha A.I Fragments, specifically Alpha's ambition and creativity. He was assigned to serve as Freelance Agent Maine's translator after being shot in the throat nine times.
Sometime after being assigned to Maine, Sigma would slowly break him mentally until he became a ravenous attack dog that obeyed Sigma's every command even long after the A.I’s death.

I have finished finally finished the first 10 episodes of Ninjago Dragons Rising season 2. Wow. I’ve never been into Ninjago for the lore, only for the jaya, but now the lore is calling to me.
My thoughts on DR Season 2:
Nya being the only one to snap out of the weird energy draining plant of despair because the thought of Jay forgetting her is inconceivable. 💀💀💀
And then we find out that it was the “Test of Fears”. Does this mean Nya secretly fears Jay forgetting her and falling out of love with her?
We are not ready for the upcoming jaya angst.
The concept of the source dragons is awesome. I like that they have unique titles such as life motion, strength, energy, and we have yet to find out the names of the other three. Some people are theorizing that the core dragon of strength is Raz’s master, but I think that’s too on the nose and doesn’t quite fit with all the information we’ve learned so far.
The next gen of ninja are really starting to grow on me. I wasn’t that excited about them during season one, however, season two has allowed their personalities to shine, and I’m excited about all of their character arcs.
Bonzel is a spell. Interesting. Season two is diving into both high-tech and theoretical physics/science, but also the occult. I love the “her?” joke about Jordana (Arrested Development reference ICU) but also, she is gifted in both tech and magic. Laugh all you want about everyone forgetting her name but she is very powerful.
But back to Bonzel, who turned out to be the MVP of these first 10 episodes of season two, the fact that she was a spell that became sentient is giving me sci-fi A.I. vibes. Kai might have been sacrificed for a forbidden five member, but Bonzel is the one who closed the portal and is now with Kai, therefore the variables have changed. We don’t have to wait for another blood moon for the portal to be opened. Plus Jordana got possessed by either a fragment of the portal or one of the forbidden five.
Here’s my prediction for the next 10 episodes: the most entertaining outcome is the most likely. How does Bonzel and Kai escape the nether purgatory? Obviously they’re not gonna wait for another millennia or two for the next blood moon. Somehow the portal will be opened again so they can extract Kai and Bonzel. And who else has all powerful portal technology? The Administration. Bonzel is now an accessory to the capture of Zane. The funniest way to extract Bonzel from this purgatory is for the Administration to apprehend her. 🤷‍♀️
Speaking of the Administration, who is excited for more than 33 seconds of Jay on screen? We found out some juicy details. He knows his name is Jay Walker. He knows he can control lightning and we know now that he hates his job and is just there for the paycheck (I can relate).
This makes Jay joining Raz’s team, if it is even him, more interesting. Maybe he leaves the Administration because Raz offers him a better job or maybe he gets an invite to the tournament of source dragons and is a neutral party. I’m excited to see the second half of season two because it’s not as predictable as we once thought it was.
But if Jay does end up joining Raz’s team, I’m excited for the jaya angst. If you’re never fantasized about hatefucking a sexy member of the supervillain group that hates you, have you even lived?
Tell me your thoughts and theories on next the ten episodes of season 2.
Unrelated: On April 8th CERN is turning back on the large hadron collider, same day as the total solar eclipse.

Cut back to Wash and Church
Washington: As they continued to torture it, Alpha couldn't keep its sanity and its memories at the same time. So it had to purge them. That fragment became Epsilon. And I was just unlucky enough to have it assigned to me.
Church: So you knew. You knew from the beginning what was going on.
Washington: Mostly. They never told anyone what they did here. I got flashes when they put Epsilon in my head. Memories of what the Director did to it.
Flashback to Wash and the Counselor
Counselor: So you would say that you have overwhelming feelings of anger, and a need for revenge?
Washington: More than you know.
Back to present
Washington: Just like you're getting now. That's why Epsilon went insane; it was meant to. It was all the horrible experiences the Alpha needed to shed to survive. And that's why it had to be removed from me.
Church: Did they know that you had the memories?
Washington: I never said a word. But they had their suspicions.
Flashback to Wash and South
Washington: Do you still have yours?
South: No Wash, I never had one. I was in the implant group behind you, remember? And after what happened to you, nobody got any more.
Back to present
Washington: I would never let them put another A.I. in my head. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hide what I knew from another program. Which, ironically, is what led them to think I could be trusted.
Church: Well what do we do with it?
Washington: We take it, and we get it in the hands of someone who can use all its information. Then they can bring down the person responsible for what was done to Alpha. And to me. And to my friends. They can take down the Director.
Church: But what about the Meta? How do we stop him? Isn't that the point? I thought only the Alpha could do that. Are we gonna find it or not?
Washington: No.
Church: No?
Washington: After the first attack on Command, they moved it. They knew the A.I. would just convince their Freelancers to come looking for it again. So they put it in a place where they didn't think anyone could find it.
Church: But... where? Shouldn't we be there, instead of here?
Washington: Church, I need you to listen to me. Delta was the logic. He was able to figure out things before anyone else. It's why he left a message for you in a way that he knew only you could find, and in a way that let me see you getting it.
Church: What are you saying?
Washington: I'm saying I know what you are. Even if you don't. Why you can seemingly live without a body.
Church: What?
Washington: It's why they stuck you in some useless backwater canyon where no one ever goes. Then why they transferred every person in your outpost to a different base than you.
Flash back to Church meeting Wash and Caboose
Church: I've been here fourteen months.
Washington: What? Over a year, by yourself?
Back to present
Washington: It's why you always agreed with everything Delta said.
Flash back to Church talking with Delta
Delta: I think we should simply be happy it is gone.
Church: That makes sense to me.
Back to present
Washington: Why you didn't feel anything when Omega got inside your head.
Back
Church: Feels pretty much the same. That's... that's kinda weird.
Present
Washington: Why you can jump from person to person the way it can.
Back
Washington: It all adds up, then. Omega was the one who inherited that trait.
Present
Washington:Church, there's no such thing as ghosts. You're one of them. You're an A.I. You... are the Alpha.

Hello, did you take inspiration or got influenced by anything while coming up with the fic/au?
Just an interest. I wrote a previous parent fic for a different fandom (never posted) which... there is a lot of clear overlap between in the early chapters. I write this fic mostly based off personal experiences or the lives of people around me/that I hear about. Helps a lot to explore outside of what you know.
Specific influences:
Chapter 14 "Date Night" was loosely inspired by Archie Sonic issue #221 for the first half. They pretty obviously watch Wall-E in the second half
N and Khan's dynamic is loosely inspired by Shard and Charles' (intended?) dynamic in the Archie Sonic comics
Akita's character is inspired by various doppelganger characters I know. Fern from Adventure Time, Eclipse and Metal Sonic from the Sonic series come to mind (also, David from A.I. Artificial Intelligence)
I actually went and started watching Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin specifically to reference it in the fic (chapter 32 "秋田犬")
Chloe is probably veryyyy loosely inspired by Suigintou from Rozen Maiden by proxy of Chloe being loosely based off one of my other OCs, Zhi from Haunting Down Our Past
Colt is a subversion of the usual Nuzi fankid, I will be honest about that... visually at least
Uzi's "pregnancy" deconstructs the idea of robot pregnancy like... as a thing? Their bodies aren't meant to do that
Caroline was named after the character of the same name from Portal 2. No relation otherwise
Fragments are loosely inspired by Yeerks from the Animorphs book series. 24 is based off a specific storyline, but I'm having trouble finding which one that was (might have misremembered?)
Angela is named after a premade Sim from The Sims 2
Alpha shares having a Greek alphabet name like one of my other OCs, Xi from Haunting Down Our Past
I'm obviously leaving out family/irl influences, but as far as media goes, this is it

How To Fan-Retcon Red Vs Blue (By Binge Watching It The Weird Way)
[Note: Please do NOT reblog this without my permission... not everyone has to take this Fan-Retcon idea seriously, I still loved the Red Vs Blue Restoration Movie that would be I guess technically Season 19. and it's okay that not everyone likes this Fan-Recon idea which could be seen as a mix of Fanon...also it's fine that not everyone ends up interested in this weird idea, and yeah I plan to do a Fan-Retcon by Binge Watching Red Vs Blue by watching Seasons 1 to 14 and then Red Vs Blue Restoration.]
is it weird to want to Fan-Retcon Red Vs Blue...?
like after watching the Season where Epsilon fragments himself, but instead of just going to the seasons where the Reds and Blues end up meeting Temple and the rest of the Blues and Reds...
we watch The Red Vs Blue Restoration before we get to that.
like we watch Seasons 1 to 14, then the Red Vs Blue Restoration...and then the other Seasons 15 to 18.
yeah we fans can't really Retcon what has already been Retcon, but in a way we can Fanon do it, by re-watching the start of the season but instead of watching the Red Vs Blue Restoration Last cause it's the Season 19 right...?
we watch the Red Vs Blue Seasons 1 to 14 and then the Red Vs Blue Restoration and then Seasons 15 to 18.
so it be kind of like a Fanon Vs Canon, but more like not to be taken too seriously and it is for the fun of doing a Fan-Retcon in a weird way.
which involves watching the series slightly out of order by watching the first few seasons, that includes the mini-episodes where it has Tex meet up with York, and even the ones with Wash.
and then when ya finish watching Season 14, you do NOT go to Season 15 right away, you watch Red Vs Blue Restoration and then you watch Season 15 and the other seasons after that.
Binge watching all the Seasons in one day and possibly to night even if it takes to early next morning, I'm gonna do it.
I'm weird for coming up with this strange Fan-Retcon idea, and I know it can't change what has already been retcon for the Red Vs Blue but still gonna do a Fan-Retcon by re-watching one of the Seasons out of order...
it is my weird idea, and it be a surprise if other Red Vs Blue Fans had the same idea about doing a Fan-Retcon like that.
but it is just weird and crazy enough to work. O_O
I mean if some fans of Red Vs Blue are interested in the idea, maybe some will do the same and re-watch the Seasons slightly out of order like I plan to, by watching Seasons 1 to 14 BUT then after watching Season 14, we go to Restoration and then after that we go to Season 15 and the other Seasons...
but if we do this, would it be like a mix of Fanon and Semi-Canon, taking place in a New Fan-Retcon Timeline where the timeline of Red Vs Blue not only restarts itself, but also makes it so the Restoration happen in a different Timeline, like a Alternate Timeline.
this would also mean that Temple, Biff and the rest of the Blues and Reds, wouldn't be Epsilon Simulation A.I. made for Simulation purposes, they would end up being REAL, well at least in the Fan-Retcon version in the Red Vs Blue Universe at least.
it's fine that not everyone ends up doing this weird idea, and I'm okay if it is just me that ends up doing this Fan-Retcon by re-watching all the Seasons but slightly out of order by watching Seasons 1 to 14 and then the Restoration before going to Season 15 and the others.
plus if what we find out about the Blues and Reds being part of a Simulation that Epsilon made was true, how do we know that it wasn't Gamma, well Epsilon-Gamma who gave Epsilon the idea by coping them from a Timelines of a Future that have yet to happen...
Rooster Teeth will always be Forever a part of our Hearts, even inspiring Fans to make Fan series based off of Red Vs Blue.
so yeah this whole Fan-Retcon wouldn't be canon, but I'm still gonna try my best to binge watch all of the seasons, but in the wrong way by starting with the Red Vs Blue Season 1 to 14 and then after watching Season 14 I'm gonna watch the Restoration...
I also decided that well I'm just gonna have this be "do not reblog without permission" cause I guess I kind of ended up changing my mind about letting this be reblogged before I posted this...
so yeah, ya can still "heart" it, but please don't reblog it without permission.
I was gonna let this be reblogged, but then changed my mind...
but if some do like the idea I have that has to do with doing a Fan-Retcon of Red Vs Blue by watching the Seasons 1 to 14 and then the Restoration/Season 19 and then Season 15 to 18, well hope the weird idea I have works out, but not everyone has to agree about the whole Fan-Retcon by re-watching the series that way.
anyway after this post, I'm gonna post a theory that has to do with Hazbin Hotel, and it has to do with two of the Characters from that show, but before I do that, I will need to take care of some stuff first, like voting in the new poll I made today that has to do with Red Vs Blue, and also feeding my Fluffy Baby that is my Second Cat.
anyway it's okay not everyone is into that weird idea I have about doing a Fan-Retcon, and it's fine if I'm the only one who ends up doing it, so yeah that's all I got to say about the weird idea that I had for a while...
also a Fan-Retcon could be seen as a type of Red Vs Blue AU or like a Alternate version of events I guess...maybe, maybe like a diverted timeline...?
and those who remember about the original timeline, would be Grif, Donut, Doc and Caboose, and maybe even Wash.
so those five go on a adventure in trying to find one of the versions of Church, because Original Church really did go back in time thanks to Gamma and left copies of himself, and Church who ended up wearing Sapphire Armor stayed at Blood Gulch, while one of the Church Clones ended up going to a new base and ended up by myself for months before Wash and Caboose show up...
and then some time after the events of the full series,
Wash and Caboose end up back at Blood Gulch, and the only Blues that are there, are Church who instead of wearing the Cobalt color armor, he is wearing the Sapphire Blue color Armor.
so yeah the idea would be, it was one of the Church Clones that got hit by the EMP, not the one who ended up wearing that Sapphire Armor...and the one who wears the Sapphire Armor, found out he was a A.I. like way before his Church Clone did that ended up facing the Meta and the Fragments.
and for all we know, Lopez could be another Church Clone but with Amnesia but he is Lopez now so yeah, there is that idea but it could maybe work in a Fanon Timeline in a Red Vs Blue AU.
but yeah, anyway later on I will binge watch all the seasons of Red Vs Blue, but once I get to season 14 I will go to season 15 right away, because once again, I will be watching the series slightly out of order by watching all the 14 Seasons and then that Movie.
not everyone has to be interested in the idea and once again it's fine, but yeah besides the whole possibility that the Church being a Clone, and the Original one still being at Blood Gulch...
I'm just gonna hurry up and post this now, and not everyone has to take this seriously or do that type of binge watching that I talked about, but I still plan to binge watch all the seasons of Red Vs Blue in that weird way that makes it to me, a Fan-Retcon.

As you severed your ties to the Blue Faction, something felt different. AVENGER felt different.
Distant.
Further away.
Tumblr media
CONDUCTOR continued to fragment and glitch, his presence becoming less and less tangible before vanishing entirely. His form, his voice-- gone, nothing more than malignant data festering inside AVENGER.
As the silence settled, another voice filled in the space, sardonic and coy.
"You know, I don't exactly have much experience with Western warfare, but I have to give my props to Greece and their Trojan Horse."
Tumblr media
With light, casual steps, CASTER emerged. Her expression was cool and aloof, the hem of her kimono drifting against the grass as AVENGER was stuck. Paralyzed. Helpless, in every sense.
"My allies wondered of the effectiveness of my plan. To suppress the memories and abilities of an enemy Servant, as well as carefully install an A.I virus based on the fragmented memories that the enemy had left. They thought it easier to just kill Avenger. In most cases, I would agree, but… well, this is a much deeper than just Avenger."
She let out a long, dramatic sigh.
"Blame you for the a problem that I set in the first place. 'Botching the summoning', then offering a solution. Ah, but where are my manners. Congratulations, Avenger, let me fix that little 'memory issue'. Though it doesn't really matter. You're nobody special, just a murderer. A failure who only has a legacy for killing talent."
AVENGER collapsed to his knees as CASTER snapped her fingers. Unceremoniously, memories flooded back as he gripped his head, frothing at the mouth as information continued to pour in, the floodgates opened without any care.
Tumblr media
CASTER continued to gloat.
"Aw, he's in pain. And it's all your fault. What horrid Masters you all are."
With a tonedeaf chime, several statuses made themselves known.
[ AVENGER's True Name Unlocked! AVENGER's HP set to 1! AVENGER's MP set to 1! AVENGER's contract has been severed from his Masters! ]
She continued talking past AVENGER's pained screams, as if they were nothing but ambiance.
Tumblr media
"My main concern was MoonCancer. I mean, her presence is a bit of an anomaly to begin with, but she's a talented hacker. I would have lost everything if she poked around at my virus. Well, not everything, but this little plan would have been foiled. Luckily, you all didn't even need my help running away from her."
Tumblr media
With an airy chuckle, she swatted away the attempt like one would swat away flies.
"How cute."
She lilted, with a smirk.
Tumblr media
"Unfortunately, he's mine now. You severed your ties to him and his team, remember? All that's left is the data I left behind."
"And my favorite part? I didn't have to make you do anything. Feed the right words, and you scrambled away from the closest ones you had to allies. I thought that severing your Blue Faction ties would at least cause you to hesitate, and yet you burst full speed ahead! Attacking your own allies, ignoring their pleas for you to stop, after they kept giving you the benefit of the doubt! And you still wanted to feed on their kindness, like parasites. Ah, they should be giving me a medal, honestly. I'm doing them a favor."
She dropped her veneer of elegance for a moment, bursting out in a loud, boisterous cackle, before stepping close and placing a hand on AVENGER's shuddering chest.
Tumblr media
"But now, the contract has been severed. You're no longer Masters. No longer part of this War. No stakes. No purpose. No Servant to serve as your contact to this world. Why destroy you, when I can simply nudge you into oblivion? You'll live as long as this world does, just without any way to experience it."
She did it slowly, with intent. Slowly picking away at each thread connecting you and AVENGER.
Again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. …And again.
As he was pushed further, and further from you.
The last thing you heard, as she gently cupped AVENGER's head in her hands- the pain now having driven him to completely fall unconscious- and her villainous monologue finally inching to a close was her sneering voice.
Tumblr media
"Don't worry, I'll take good care of him while you're gone. Rider too."
This was, without a doubt, a…
Tumblr media
.
..
...
....
.....
......Ugh. Dammit.
Tumblr media
'A NARRATING VOICE': "In other words, you beefed it. Screwed up. Shat the bed. Back to start, do not pass go. Et cetera. …Yeesh."

Agent Texas
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Parameter
Strength: B+
Endurance: B
Agility: B
Mana: E
Luck: —(lost in favor of Curse of Origin)
NP: B~A
Personal Skills
Independent Action (B Rank): Both during her freelancer days, as well as her time in Blood Gulch, Agent Texas primarily operated independently, as such she can stay in the world for two days without a Master.
Curse of Origin (EX Rank): like the other A.I fragment that originated from Alpha, Tex inherited a trait from it, in her case, failure. Tex is cursed to fail whenever something emotionally significant to her is at stake. The severity of failure as well as the consequences may vary; the outcome remains constant, she is destined to fall short just when success seems to be within her grasp.
Knowledge of Melee Combat (B+ Rank): Tex is a one-woman army, effortlessly capable of taking on dozens of opponents simultaneously at close range. Easily handling a three on one ten round match against Agents Wyoming, Maine, and York during her rookie days at Project Freelancer.
Tactics (C Rank): Though normally a lone wolf, Tex led a raid against Project Freelancer's main headquarters at the time, the Mother of Invention, in an attempt to rescue Alpha. Tex also managed to lead the Red and Blues in a successful assault against O'Malley's fortress.
The Director's Shadow (A rank): Agent Texas was often tasked with erasing Project Freelancer's involvement in conflicts. As such it is possible for her to fully eliminate all traces of evidence of any engagement she and other servants took part in.
Class: Assassin
Possibly classes: Archer
Class skills
Presence Concealment (—): lost this Skill in favor of the Active Camouflage Noble Phantasm
Noble Phantasm
Active Camouflage:
Rank: B
Type: Anti-Unit(Self)
Omega: Alpha's rage
Rank: A
Type: Anti-Unit
As always descriptions for NPs
Active Camouflage: Like the majority of the agents of Project Freelancer, Tex is armed with an armor enhancement, in her case, active camouflage allowing her to become invisible, making her undetectable both by sight and mana detection. However, fast movements such as running, jumping, or even the firing of her weapons can cause her to appear semi-transparent instead of truly invisible till set movements come to a halt, instantly regaining truth invisibility, meanwhile, motion trackers and heat sensors can pick her up.
Omega: An autonomous Noble Phantasm capable of remaining active in the world even after Agent Texas's death, provided Omega is not directly connected to her at the time of her demise and is fed a constant supply of magical energy from the person that originally summoned Texas. Outside of providing Tex with combat support as well as increasing her strength state by a single rank, Omega is capable of possessing hosts. significantly amplifying the host's existing skills or allowing the quick development of new ones. However, unlike the Alpha A.I or the Beta A.I fragment, Omega cannot fully dominate his host, thus making it appear as though the host has developed a split personality while Omega possesses them. Prolonged possession by Omega may result in remnants of his personality being left behind in the host's mind, a consequence of the mental strain and damage inflicted by the A.I. Additionally, Command Spells can influence Omega.

Note
It should be noted that S17 time travel might not have actually happened in universe due to the final installment in Rvb retconing everything post season 13 into one of many simulations ran by the a.i Fragment known as Epsilon as one the possible outcome that would occur after his heroic sacrifice.

As a fair warning, Oregon's lore varies slightly depending on certain events during freelancer. Because of this, I'm going to separate this post into two parts, starting with the lore that is completely cannon to the blog.
Lyra Spark is born in a backwater military city to parents who could care less about her, 16 years before the start of project freelancer. At the age of 10, her parents fully left, leaving her to take care of herself, though it wasn't very hard for her to adapt, considering thats what she was doing before. During her childhood, she had developed a habit of finding her way onto ships that would be docked and trying to hide on them, hoping she could leave with them. This never worked though, and she would leave, usually with her pockets full of stolen rations or the wallets of whoever caught her. Her time on the MOI almost ended the same, but she managed to lift the director's wallet off his person while being told off for breaking onto the ship. This, alongside the fact that she hadn't tripped any alarms while getting on the ship lead to her being invited to be an agent for project freelancer. She was named agent Oregon because they grabbed her from the state of Oregon.
During freelancer, Oregon is trained in the creation and placement of explosives, becoming the demolitions expert of the project. The first two years of the project were also the worst when it came to interacting with her, because she was fully in her angsty teen phase. (Something she never fully grew out of, even if she did learn to be more polite to people.) She also starts to prank people, and generally talk shit about other agents.
Three years before the fall of the MOI, Oregon is given Zeta, an A.I fragment with the trait of Survival. This is made out to be a strategic choice, allowing her to analyze situations faster, and figure out the best places to place explosives during her missions. This was actually a front for the director's true intentions though, being an experiment on how an A.I presence could alter a still developing mind. Neither Oregon nor Zeta have any knowledge of this. The A.I presence actually helps rein Oregon's impulsive nature, and her pranks often end up less destructive, but more focused.
During the fall of the MOI, Oregon gets stuck in a fight between a few agents, and ends up knocked into a wall, damaging and short circuiting her A.I implant. This causes her to develop Amnesia, and It is believed that the event also corrupted Zeta beyond repair.
Her status after that is unknown (TBD)

Oh, fun facts about Afton-Herrera Moments 4!
Gregory's strange dream he told Sydney about was a fragment of Mike being put into the Golden Freddy suit at the final hour of Night of the 7th. He mentions not being able to move his arms or legs and he had done exercises to be sure everything could move without aches or pains; this references Mike's dislocated shoulder and broken leg and the Fazband basically strapping his limbs down in place.
Sydney's 'dream' was him arguing with Mimic!Panther, demanding his memories back and frustrated that the A.I. only taunts him by saying he'd share a few scraps if Sydney takes up mercenary jobs 'to jog his memory'.
The drink Sydney made is Mexican hot chocolate, made with tablets of chocolate and spices. He gets the Ibarra brand since he distrusts most other brands.

Cut to Church and Washington
Church: You mean to tell me we've come all this way for this? Your fucking crazy A.I, Epsilon?
Washington: Yes. I thought it was gone. But Delta told you memory was the key. At first I thought he meant to remember our first encounter. And when I met Delta the first time what I told him was-
The scene flashes toward Church and we see a flashback of Wash talking with Delta
Washington: You were encrypted until you could be recovered.
Delta: Recovery carries risk. Destruction ensures that an A.I.-
Washington: You cost a lot of money, okay? It's cheaper to recover you than it is to delete you.
Back to present day
Washington: When they removed Epsilon from me, he was unravelling, casting off all his thoughts. I was sure they deleted him but it's-
Church: It's cheaper to store it than it is to delete it. Right?
Washington: Right.
Church: But why are we looking for this thing? What's the point?
Washington: The message specifically said that memory is the key. Delta was telling me that Epsilon was still alive.
Church: And Epsilon is the key?
Washington: In a way. At the end of the war, things didn't look good for humans. And there were dozens of projects all trying to come up with the magic bullet to win.
Church: Right.
Washington: Project Freelancer was one of them. They had their research with aggressive A.I. But they could only get the one, and they needed more to conduct their experiments. So, they got desperate.
Church: Right. They tried to... they tried to copy it but they couldn't, so they-
Washington: All A.I. are based on a human mind. And the Director had a theory. He thought, if we can't copy it, we'll just have to do the next best thing.
A scene flashes for Church
Church: Ah! They, they split it?
Washington: Just like a human mind when it's broken; it fragments. It fractures itself to protect itself.
Church: They tortured it.
Washington: Like reverse engineering a multiple personality disorder. They presented Alpha with scenario after scenario of stress and danger. When it started to fragment, they harvested those fragments.
Church: The Freelancer A.I.s.
Washington: Exhorted little fragments of purified compartmentalized emotion. None of them were a full personality. Some were good-
Church: Like Delta?
Washington: Delta was Alpha's logic. It needed to protect itself from analyzing what was happening to it. So it segregated that part of its mind. The part that would be able to understand the horror of what they were doing to it. And when the anger came and threatened to take over, it split that off too. That was Omega; its rage. Gamma was its deceit. Sigma was its creativity. And Epsilon...
Church: Epsilon was its memories.
Washington: And memory is the key.
